She was born on March 5, 1938, and died on November 22, 2011. She studied at the University of California and had 4 kids.

WORK

Margulis was best known for her theory of symbiogenesis, which challenges central tenets of neo-Darwinism. She argued that inherited variation, significant in evolution, does not come mainly from random mutations. Rather, they evlve primarily through the long-lasting intimacy of strangers

PRIZES

- Guggenheim Fellowship in Natural sciences , USA and Canada.- William procter prize for Scientific achievement. - National Medal of Science in Biological sciences.
