History with the Commonwealth
- 1874: Fiji became a British colony
- 1879: The first Indian servants arrived
- 1970: Fiji got their independence and a new constitution
- 1987: Dr Timoci Bavadra got elected as Prime Minister
- 1987:First coup d'état = Fiji got kicked out of the Commonwealth for 10 years
- 2000: Fiji got kicked out again for 18 months because of a second coup d'état
- 2006:Last coup d'état = Banned until 2014
- Fiji was welcomed back into the Commonwealth and the Pacific Islands Forum
Today:
It's still a member of the Commonwealth of Nations which gained more and more independence from Great Britain and established a Parliamenytary democracy.
