Global issues
Endengered animals
Biodiversity loss impacts numerous species, including rhinos, tigers, orangutans, and whales. Causes like habitat destruction and poaching threaten their survival. Conservation and public awareness are vital, requiring actions such as habitat protection, anti-poaching laws, and sustainable practices.
Global issues
Climate change
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
Global issues
Pollution
Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called pollutants. Pollutants can be natural, such as volcanic ash. They can also be created by human activity, such as trash or runoff produced by factories. Pollutants damage the quality of air, water, and land.
Local issues
Salamanca has six species catalogued as "in danger of extinction". Two are birds, the Red Kite (Milvus milvus) and the Iberian Imperial Eagle (Aquila adalberti), the Batueca Lizard (Iberolacerta martinezricai) and the Iberian Desman (Galemys pyrenaicus), the only mammal.
Endengered animals
Facts and statistics
¿What I know?
Only 1.9 million species have been described out of an estimated 13-14 million species that exist. In the last 500 years, human activity is known to have forced 869 species to extinction (or extinction in the wild). One in four mammals and one in eight birds face a high risk of extinction in the near future.
"At 15, I see how extinction threatens animals. Our actions impact biodiversity. As teenagers, we must live sustainably and use social media to raise awareness. Though we may seem small, every choice matters in the fight to preserve nature."
In 100 years...
I believe that in about 100 years, 6 or more species of animals will disappear, as the level of pollution produced today is very high and this affects many animals.
I believe that more ONGs and foundations will be concerned about the care and maintenance of endangered animals.
Some animals will change to adapt to current conditions and survive.
