The polis
  • It created the Greek alphabet, the first one using letters to represent vowels and consonants
  • The polis were governed by a basileus(king) GREEK COLONISATION
  • Due to the growth of population and a shortage of agricultural products, some people emigrated and established Greek colonies in other countries.
  • Each colony was founded as an independent polis of the city of origin or metropolis

Dark Age

  • The Mycenaean civilisation fell into decline and period of crisis began
  • After the mycenaean disappaerance, there were no written records known as the Dark Age.
  • During this period, population was devided into different groups formed by a family and their slaves.

  • They were good warriors and conquered the island of Crete
