Exploring Probability

  • Yesterday in math class we learned all about making predictions. We then applied what we learned by creating our own experiments and making predictions about those experiments. After that, we were all able to test our predictions and reflect on if they were correct or incorrect predictions.
  • Today, we are going to apply what we learned yesterday by exploring probability.

+ info

- all the different foods that the caterpillar eats in the book- today they are going to learn about probability, which is the chance that something will happen.

Think about:

  • We are going to use fraction circles to represent the probability of different events happening.
  • You need to come up with a list of different events that could happen in the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."
  • For example events like:
  • The caterpillar eats a red apple.
  • The caterpillar eats a green pear.
  • The caterpillar eats a yellow plum.
  • The caterpillar eats a purple plum.

Fraction Cirlces

Your turn!

  • use the fraction circles here to represent the probability of each event happening. For example, if you think that there is a 1/2 chance of the caterpillar eating a red apple, you would use the ½ fraction circle and color ½ of the circle red.
  • you can use the fraction circles to represent the probability of any event happening.
  • Fraction circles:

    • Screen shot a picture of one of your fraction circles along with your event to upload in canvas

Write a short paragraph explaining what you learned about probability to submit on canvas

Let the communication flow!

With Genially templates, you can include visual resources to wow your audience. You can also highlight a particular sentence or piece of information so that it sticks in your audience’s minds, or even embed external content to surprise them: Whatever you like!Do you need more reasons to create dynamic content? No problem! 90% of the information we assimilate is received through sight and, what’s more, we retain 42% more information when the content moves.

  • Generate experiences with your content.
  • It’s got the Wow effect. Very Wow.
