The physical parts of a computer

Part of the "brain" of the computer. This is the part that takes in, analyzes, and carries out instructions given to the computer.
screen
The part of the computer that displays information in words and pictures. A screen is also called a monitor when it is not built in with any other parts.
keyboard
A device that allows a user to put information into a computer. It has buttons, which can create letters, numbers, and symbols when pressed.
mouse
A device that allows a user to put information into a computer. It usually has two buttons and sometimes a wheel. A user can point and click with a mouse.
printer
A device that allows a user to take information, such as words and pictures, from a computer and put that information onto paper.
speaker
A device that allows sound, such as music or video, to come from a computer for everyone in the room to hear.
headphones
A device that allows sound, such as music or video, to come from a computer, but allows one user to listen without everyone else hearing. Earbuds are another type of headphone.
webcam
A device that allows a user to record video and sound and put it into a computer.
input
All of the pieces of hardware that get information INTO the computer. Examples include a keyboard, a mouse, an internet modem, a scanner, a touchscreen, and a webcam.
output
All of the pieces of hardware that get information OUT OF the computer. Examples include a screen, a printer, headphones, speakers and a Smart Board.
