JAY GATSBY
Jay Gatsby, previously known as James Gatz, is one of the main characters in the book "The Great Gastby". Gastby was born in the late 1800s to a poor farmer's family in North Dakota. Later in his life, he became someone of new money, and was commonly known for his extravagant and lavish parties.
Al Capone
Al Capone was born in 1899 in Brooklyn, New York. He was an infamous ganster that was brought to justice in 1931, and served 6 and a hald years in prison. In 1947, Al Capone died in Miami, Florida.
Thesis
Al Capone could be the doppelganger of Jay Gastby because of the similaraities in their life choices and accomplishments.
Poor Family Background
Al Capone was born in Brooklyn, New York to a family of Italian immigrants.
Gatsby was born in North Dakota to a family of poor farmer's.
Pseudonyms
Al Capone was previously known as Alphonse Gabriel Capone. He most likely shed his real name as a way to disconnect himself from his past identity.
Jay Gastby was previously known as James Gatz. He changed his name to better fit his new identity of a wealthy, educated, young man.

Gastby aquired his wealth through illegal means. He most likely participated in various acts of organized crime, such as bootlegging and trading stolen assets.

The person who Al Capone considered an enemy would be Henryk Wojciechowski, also known as Earl J. "Hymie" Weiss. This was because Earl was an American mobster in charge of the Prohibition-era North Side Gang and was also "the only man Al Capone feared".
Tom Buchanon would be the most likely enemy of Gatsby's. Not only was it because he was married to the girl of his dreams, but because Tom was the reason George Wilson had decided to murder him.
Drop Outs
Gatsby dropped out of school once he was in college. He attended college at St. Olaf in Minnesota, however dropping out only after 2 weeks had passed. The reason being he couldn't stand the humilation of doing janitorial work to pay for his tuition.
Al Capone stayed in school until the 6th grade. He dropped out of school at age 14 after he had struck one of the teachers at his school. Once out of school, it was said that he joined one of the neighborhood gangs.

The most gossiped about of the life of Al Capone was after his death. Many people wondered where the rest of his accumulated wealth had gone. Many articles were written all following a similar headline of "the dispappearance of Al Capone's wealth and fortune". Even today there are still articles questioning the mystery of the dissappearing millions.
