Snowmen at Night

What does a snowman look like at night? What are some colors we see at winter? What do you think snowmen do at night time? Does he/she hang out alone or with friends?

Some Tips and Tricks For Working With Soft Pastels

  • They are messy!! have a paper towel handy to wipe your fingers off. You will use it a lot!
  • Make sure youare using a clean finger to blend in the colors - see above tip! (Don't blend the blue shade then use the same finger to blend the yellow highlight)
  • If you don't want to use your fingers to blend then use a paper towel but make sure you use a clean area when blending each color.
  • try not to touch or lean on your paper as much as possible. you will transfer pastels all over your paper.
  • If you have a lot of pastel chalk on your paper, do not blow on it or shake it on the floor - use the trash can on the desk to gently shake it off.

Let's Start With a Snowman (or 2!)

Now Lets Add Some Details

Start Coloring

1.

2.

Highlight - Yellow because the moon is glowing yellow

Shade - Blue or purple are good shading colors

3.

Blend the colors - make sure to leave white inbetween!

4.

Now do the same thing to each part of the snowman!

Once You Are Done Shading, Start Coloring in the Details -

Don't forget to add shading and highlights to the details! Remember where your light source is when you are shading and highlighting!

Final Step - Finish The Snow - Don't Forget to Shade and Highlight!

ADD ANY DETAILS IN THE BACKGROUND THAT YOU WANT BUT DON'T FORGET TO SHADE AND HIGHLIGHT THOSE AS WELL!
