Air Pollution
Jungwoo So
How does air pollution impact the natural processes of Earth's water and water systems?
Air pollution can directly contaminate the surface of water and soil. It can kill young trees and other plants. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide particles in the air can create acid rain when mixed with water and oxygen in the atmosphere. (National Geographic Society)In addition, emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from burning fossil fuels can lead to the formation of acid rain. Acidification is abundant in ecosystems, affects them, and can harm aquatic ecosystems.
