Each ecosystem can have different types of soil. But they normally share some common elements:

Surface layer: organic debris partly decomposed (leaves...).

Topsoil: softer soil (rich in minerals and organic materials).

Subsoil: harder soil (clay).

Parent rock: broken and smaller rocks.
