CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
When do we use conditional sentences?
We use conditional sentences to say one thing depends on another. They can be used to talk about real or imaginary situations. -Composition of the conditional sentences: One of the clauses starts with if (the most common types of conditional sentences involve if), or a similar word; this is the conditional clause. The other clause talks about the result (main clause) of the conditional clause happening. The order of the clauses does not change the meaning.
Order of clauses
Conditional sentences consist of a conditional clause and a main clause:
Conditional clauses usually come before main clauses but they may also come after them:
[main clause]
[conditional clause]
If a lot of people come, we'll have to get extra chairs.
[main clause]
[conditional clause]
If you see Dora, will you give her a message?
[conditional clause]
[main clause]
(conditional clause first; a comma is normally used in writing)
Unless you book weeks in advance, you won’t get a flight.
[main clause]
[conditional clause]
I’ll go to Bristol tomorrow if the weather is good.
[main clause]
[conditional clause]
If he had time, he always called in to see us
(conditional clause second; a comma is not normally used in writing)
What types of conditionals are there?
The First Conditional
The Zero Conditional
The Second Conditional

ZERO CONDITIONAL
Uses
-We use the zero conditional to talk about things or facts that are generally true, especially for laws and rules. -It refers to a general situation that always happens if a condition is met. The result is certain. The condition always has the same result. -Also, Zero conditionals are known as Type 0 conditionals.
[Condition]
[result]
If you heat ice cream, it melts.
[conditional clause]
[main clause]
Ice cream always melts when you heat it. It is a fact.
Structure
You can change the order of the result and the condition, but, if you put the result at the beginning of the sentence, you don't need to use a comma.
Affirmative sentences:
If / When + Subject + present simple + , + Subject + present simple.
If you disapprove of something, you don’t agree with it.
(Si desapruebas algo, no estás de acuerdo con ello).
When I sleep less than eight hours, I feel tired.
(Cuando duermo menos de ocho horas, me siento cansada).
Negative sentences:
If / When + Subject + do not/does not + Verb + Object + , + Subject + do not/does not + Verb + Object. (does not) in base form (does not) in base form with 3rd person of singular with 3rd person of singular
If I don't eat, I don't have energy.
(Si no como, no tengo energía).
If you don’t study, you don’t learn.
(Si no estudias, no aprendes).
Interrogative sentences:
If / When + Subject + Verb / present simple + Obj , + Wh- + Auxiliar verb + Subject + present simple + ? in base form
If you mix black and white, what do you get?
(Si mezclas blanco y negro, ¿qué obtienes?).
If you mix blue and red, do you get purple?
(Si mezclas azul y rojo, ¿obtienes morado?).
To say what will happen if the condition is not met, the subordinate clause is introduced by the conjunction 'unless', which is equivalent to if not (“a no ser que”, “a menos que”, “si no”), or the verb of the condition is negated.
Unless I use a GPS, I get lost.
(A menos que use un GPS, me pierdo). with unless
If I don’t use a GPS, I get lost
(Si no uso un GPS, me pierdo). with verb denied in the condition

EXPERIMENTS
Experiment 1
-The necessary elements and tools for this experiment are: -Four small spoons of baking soda or two sfervescent tablets. -Half glass of vinegar. -A bottle of water of 500 ml and a globe. -Optionally, a funnel (to introduce the elements in a better way).
(How to blow up a ballon with baking soda)
-Preparation: 1) Let's put half a glass of vinegar into an empty bottle of water. 2) Introduce the baking soda or a broken sfervescent tablet into the globe. 3) Then, hook up the globe on the cap side of the bottle. 4) Finally, lift the globe and let the baking soda or the broken sfervescent fall into the bottle.
ZERO CONDITIONAL
- Vinegar and baking soda produce carbon dioxide if we mix them.
(El vinagre y el bicarbonato producen dióxido de carbono si los mezclamos).
- If we mix the vinegar and the baking soda in the empty bottle of water, the globe swells with the carbon dioxide.
(Si mezclamos el vinagre y el bicarbonato en una botella vacía, el globo se hincha con el dióxido de carbono).
Experiment 2
(The balancing can)
-The necessary elements and tools for this experiment are: -A can of 33 cl. -11 cl of water (the third part of the can).
-Preparation: -Put the 11 cl of water inside the can and place it at an incline.
ZERO CONDITIONAL
- The can balances perfectly if it contains a third of its content in it.
(La lata se equilibra perfectamente si tiene un tercio de su contenido en su interior).
Experiment 3
-Preparation: 1) Put some water on a plate. 2) Then, put the ground pepper on water. 3) Dip your finger in the dishwaher. 4) Put your finger in the water and look ate the result.
(Pepper and water)
-The necessary elements and tools for this experiment are: -A plate. -A little ground pepper. -Water. -Dishwasher.
ZERO CONDITIONAL
- The ground pepper spreads out on a water layer if we put a finger with a little bit of dishwasher.
(La pimienta molida se esparce sobre una capa de agua si metemos nuestro dedo con lavavajillas).
- If we put dishwasher on a layer of water and ground pepper, the ground pepper spreads out.
(Si ponemos lavavajillas sobre una capa de agua y pimienta molida, la pimienta molida se esparce).
Experiment 4
-The necessary elements and tools for this experiment are: - A plastic bottle. - A bit of vinegar. - A bit of bicarbonate . - A bit of 'Fairy'.
Foam generator
-Preparation: 1) Put the vinegar in the bottle. 2) Add fairy. 3) Mix the elements. 4) Finally, pour the bicarbonate into the mixture.

-The necessary elements and tools for this experiment are: - A plastic bottle with special cap. - A bit of vinegar. - A bit of bicarbonate . - A piece of paper towel.
Explosive bottle cap
-Preparation: 1) Put the vinegar in the bottle. 2) Put a bit of bicarbonate in the piece of paper towel. 3) Add it to the vinegar. 4) Finally, put the cap.
ZERO CONDITIONAL
- If you mix bicarbonate and vinegar and put it in a sealed bottle, the cap goes flying.
(Si mezclas bicarbonato y vinagre y lo pones en una botella cerrada, la tapa sale volando).
Experiment 6
-The necessary elements and tools for this experiment are: - A glass. - A bit of water. - A bit of oil .
Oil and water mixture.
-Preparation: 1) Put the water in the glass. 2) Add the oil. 3) Finally, watch what happens.
