To connect computers or peripherals in a network, we need network devices like:

  • Modem is derived from the word modulator-demodulator.
  • It converts digital signals from the computer to another form that can be transmitted over telephone wires and vice versa.

NETWORK INTERFACE CARD

Networking Interface Card

  • Ethernet is a networking technology. It is used in LAN and WAN networks. Ethernet cards are essential parts of a network. They are used to connect a computer to another computer or to a server by using a cable.
  • Ethernet card are also called Network Interface card(NICs). It is used to transmit data from the network to your computer by using a network cable. The cable connection on the card is called RJ-45 (Registered Jack).

HUB

  • A hub is the most basic networking device that connects multiple computers or other network devices together. It is available with 8, 12 or 24 ports. It connects segments of LAN. The NIC transfers data from a computer to a hub, which, then transfers it to other connected computers.
