What are rocks?

A rock is a solid made by different minerals. Rocks are generally not made up of an exact structure. There are three types of rocks: Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.

IGNEUS ROCK

Means fire. Is formed by the cooling and solidification of magma (a molten rock under the surface).

Sometimes igneous rocks take a very long time to form. This happens when the rock doesn’t fully escape the heat of the magma, but the temperatures are too cool to prevent the magma from being in liquid form.

SEDIMENTARY ROCK

Rock formed at the Earth’s surface or near by the accumulation and lithification of sediment or by the precipitation from solution at normal surface temperatures.

Sedimentary rocks have lines because of layers of sediment that have accumulated over time.

Metamorphic rock

Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have been changed from their original form by changing environmental conditions.They can change many times, and they change their hardeness, bright, colour...
