Let's debate
You are going to participate in a contest of mini-debates about topics regarding sports and gender. You will have to support ONE SIDE of the debate (AGREE / DISAGREE). You can decide with your classmate OR play a game of rock-paper-scissors to determine your side of the debate. Each debate will last 3 to 5 minutes. You will have 2 minutes before the debate to prepare your vocabulary + arguments.
I agree with you, but...
I am convinced that...
Nonsense!!
Another point is...
1 student vs 1 student + 1 referee
Do's
Use the debate vocabulary from the online Unit, as much as you can. Make sure to give as many arguments AND examples as you can! Be respectful / fairplay with your debate opponents and the referee.
Don'ts
Don't speak French! The referee will give you a yellow card. Don't be too loud / rude (no yelling at your opponent or insulting them, no interrupting constantly). The referee will give you a red card.
How to referee
DURING THE DEBATE: => +1 point if your classmate gives an argument. => +2 points if your classmate can give a relevant example to illustrate their argument. => 1 yellow card <=> - 2 points => 2 yellow cards <=> 1 red card <=> - 5 points AFTER THE DEBATE: => +3 points for the person who has used the most debate vocabulary.
When the debate is finished, the referee must announce the winner.
Up-and-down rotation

(becomes a referee in the next debate)
Please keep in mind that you may have to support a point of view that is not necessarily YOUR personal point of view... So don't get too upset with your classmates if they say something you really disagree with... They are playing their role too!
