And the Winner is...
Oscar Night is an extremely glamorous and unmissable evening held every year in February at the Dolby Theater, in Los Angeles. The Oscars are awared each year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, an organization founded in 1927 in California with the aim of supporting the development of US cinema. The Academy is composed of 7,258 juros with the right to vote at the Oscars. These jurors are divided into many categories. Each member of a category votes for that category. For instance, the actors vote for the four categories of actors, the scriptwriters for the two regarding the script, the costume designers for the costumes, and so on. All the members can vote for the Best Film Category, even those who do not belong to any specific category. Academy members are 77% male, the average is 62, and only 15% of the jurors are under the age of 50. There were 24 categories in 2019: best film, direction, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, original screenplay, non-original screenplay, animated film, set design, photography, costumes, editing, sound, sound editing, visual effects, documentary, short documentary, foreign language film, make-up, original song, soundtrack, short film and animated short film. The Oscar Awards ceremony used to last 5 hours, but later it was decided to shorten it to no more than 3 hours.
And the Winner is...
The famous winning statuette is 34 cm high, weighs almost 4 kilos and is made by R.S. Owens od Chicago in gold plate. It represents a knight in the Art Deco style. There are many legends regarding the origin of the name "Oscar", but the most famous one say that Margared Herrick, secretary of the President of the Academy, first was the statuette, and said: "It looks like my uncle Oscar!"
