Death penalty, also called capital punishment, is the sentence to death of an offender that committed a capital crime. It's important to remember that the penalty isn't alwaysfollowed by execution, beacuse there is the possibility to commutate it to life imprisonment.

• There is the risk that it's a wrongful execution;
• Execution is an offence to human dignity, because it's a cruel punishment;
• Capital punishment doesn't decrease the rate of homicide;
• It has irreparable consequences in the event of miscarriages of justice.
