Day and night I always dream with open eyes And on top of the foaming waves Of the wide turbulent sea, And on the rolling Desert sands, And merrily riding on the gentle neck Of a mighty lion, Monarch of my heart, I aways see a floating child who is calling me!

I Dream Awake

I think that I Dream Awake by Jose Marti was influenced by the Culture of Cuba. I think this because, during the time he wrote this poem, Cuba was ruled by a different country. They treated their people horribly. " I always see a floating child who is calling me! " I believe that he is dreaming about helping the children of Cuba break free from cruel treatment from the government. "And merrily riding on the gentle neck of a mighty lion, monarch of my heart." I believe that Jose Marti's heart is telling him to be brave and take a risk even if he is going against what the government has to say.

Meaning to the poem
