- Predictions (without evidence)
- After certain expressions
Time expressions used with WILL / BE GOING TO
- TOMORROW / THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW
- NEXT WEEK / MONTH / YEAR, ETC.
- IN A FEW MINUTES / IN JUNE
- IN AN HOUR, IN A WEEK, IN FIVE YEARS TIME
3. SHALL and SHOULD
Use:
- SHALL is used for suggestions and offers
Form:
- They are modal verbs, so they are followed by an infinitive, without 'to' (shall be / should come)
- SHOULD is used for predictions (similar to WILL) when we are not 100% sure
- Shall is normally used in questions, with the pronouns I and we
- Shall we meet for a coffee?
Use:
4. Future Continuous
- Actions in progress at a specific time in the future
Form:
Time expressions: At 5 p.m. tomorrow This time tomorrow / next week / next month, etc.
5. Future Perfect Simple
Use:
- Actions that will be completed BY or before a specific time in the future.
Form:
- To talk about how long an action will have lasted for at a point of time in the future.
Time expressions: BY + the end of the week / month / year / day By this time tomorrow / by 2045
Use:
6. Future Perfect Continuous
- Events or situations that will happen over a period of time (we focus on the process between a point in the past and a point in the future)
Form:
Time expressions: BY + the end of the week / month / year / dayBy this time tomorrow / by 2045
