LEARNING RESILIENCE

In order to achieve one’s full potential:

  • Schools should expect students to do their best. Due to this, teachers should never give up teaching someone before trying it because of the abilities/behavior/needs of the student.
  • Also, teachers should encourage students to believe in themselves even when they fail.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEED

Being able to afford all the school supplies such as books, a laptop, or the center’s uniform, is not possible for some students.

  • For this reason, school should reuse the school supplies of students that have finished the course and are still in good condition.
  • In addition, the school could provide a library service opened in the afternoons and weekends so students could have access to books, technology, and Wi-Fi for free.

LOVE NEED

For those students who are having trouble at home/school it could be good that they recieve a positive reinforcement from their teacher.

  • For this reason, the teacher should provide positive comments and feedbacks rather than negative ones.
  • In addition, getting equal treatment from their teacher will be key to feel valued.

RESPECT NEED

Students need to feel included and part of a group by being listened and asked for their opinion.

  • Due to this fact, school and teachers could moderate the discussion so each student could say their point of view.
  • Moreover, they should help and teach students to show respect and how to put interest on what others are saying.

CLOTHES NEED

Kids need clothes that are clean, in good conditions, and fit to the weather conditions.

  • In case they get their clothes dirty/or broken, the school could give them a clothes change.
  • In case they need personal hygiene supplies such as diapers, pads, tampons, etc. Schools should supply them for free.

SUPERVISION NEED

Having families that can be with their children in the afternoons is not always possible.

  • Due to this issue, school could offer a space where students can stay until families can come to pick them up.

ECONOMICAL NEED

There could be situations where a family does not have enough money, time or cannot buy or cook breakfast for their kids.

  • To solve this hard problem school could provide a free breakfast service to everyone.
  • Furthermore, school could help them by considering the economic family situation before deciding the budget costs (a field trip).

LEARNING NEED

As everyone learns at a different rhythm, children need to have the opportunity to learn the same as everyone else, despite the difficulties they could have.

  • For this reason, teachers and schools must be alert to student difficulties and intervene as soon as possible.
  • Society and governments should give enough resources to face or deal with those kinds of situations, such as specialized training, more teachers, investing more capital in the education sector…

Water need

Students should always have access to water since it's an essential need.

  • For this reason, school facilities should include a large quantity of fountains in the playgrounds.
  • In addition, schools could put faucets in each class to promote hygiene.

COOPERATIVE NEED

In real life, when you are at work, you usually have to work with other people. Therefore, it is important to be able to work in a cooperative way successfully.

  • To get this, teachers should include different group activities such as projects and presentations in the learning process.
  • Also, they could give students ideas, tips, and sources to learn how to work with diverse people and how to develop communication skills to achieve the same goal from an activity.

DEVELOPING SKILLS

As in the near future, kids will have to deal with more responsibilities, it’s essential to teach them from scratch how to live in society.

  • Schools should plan some field trips to museums, theaters, parks, markets, etc.
  • Teachers and families should work together to help children gain autonomy such as making the bed and preparing the backpack.

ADAPTATION NEED

Schools are diverse and every student is unique. Kids may need different approaches to understand and be motivated to increase their knowledge.

  • Therefore, teachers may take into account all students ‘needs before planning lessons.
  • In addition, schools and teachers cannot evaluate only in one way, they should offer different evaluation systems.

BELONGING NEED

Any student should feel that they are rellevant in class. They have to feel that they belong to the class group by taking responsabilities related to the group activities.

  • To achieve this, the class could have personal helpers on a rotating basis. The teacher should give them the opportunity to have a role in the class such as close the curtains, erasing the whiteboard, giving other classmates the resources for the activities, etc.
  • It's important that the adult figure shows that they value students' thoughts, opinions, and judgments.
  • Also, they must encourage them to say what they think, and give them the opportunity to share opinions as their favorite movie, book, food, etc.

LEARNING INDEPENDENCE

As life is a constant learning process, students should learn to be their own teachers, so when they will have to face a situation alone they will have the tools to do it.

  • Schools should give students the freedom to explore and discover on their own with activities that interest them.
  • Also, teachers should give kids the opportunity to fail and learn from their mistakes without giving them a solution immediately.

SLEEP NEED

It is essential for children to sleep enough because when they do not rest all the hours required, that tiredness could affect physically and mentally their health. Also, good sleep means a better attitude.

  • School could gave time to students to take naps after eating.
  • Furthermore, they could provide special furniture for taking those naps (as little foams).
