The timeline shows the major events in the novel that make understand how the themes of loyalty and love are conceived in the society described. In fact in the story one of the main points of the Party is having a constant sense of duty toward it and everything people do has to conform to the Brotherhood's will. Even having a relationship with someone, such as the one between Winston and Julia, is a crime because it's not centered on the government's well being. Showing loyalty to the Party also includes being ready to act in unethical ways and O'Brien demonstrates it when he lies and brutally tortures the two lovers to make them be as the Party wants them. Every value dies in front of the commitment to the government; even the logic seems to not exist anymore to make everything fit with the lies of the powerful government of Big Brother. People seem not to be humans anymore, if a feeling or emotion is greater than love and loyalty to to the Party, it must be eliminated.
