Earliest History

The First European explorer to claim Louisiana. Although there is evidence that people could have existed there as long as 12,000 years ago.

Louisiana Purchase

The United States Purchased the Louisiana territory from France in 1803 for 15 million dollars.

WHy it happened

Naploleon didn't really care to make a French army anywhere in North America. Thomas Jefferson wanted it because he always wanted the U.S to expand further to the west

Louisiana in the war of 1812

Over the course of the war, Louisiana supplied almost 10,000 troops. More notably, the final battle of the war took place in New Orleans.

Louisiana in the Civil war

Louisiana was important during the Civil War because they could take control of the Mississippi River.

In April 1862, The Union Attacked forts in Louisiana.

This wouldn't have been as bad if the blockades around the forts weren't weakened by storms and floods.

Louisiana, also had lots of supplies like food, clothes, and animals.

1900's-Present day

Hurricanes

Baton Rouge is established as the capital in 1932.

Louisiana's senator is assassinated in the state capitol in 1935.

The Superdome in New Orleans is done with constructionwith the cost of construction being over $163 million
