when do we use the infinitive?
We can use the infinitive or another verb after many verbs: afford, agree, arrange, expect, forget, hope, intend, manage, plan, promise, refuse, seem.
EXAMPLES
- He intends to start a business next year
- You promised to do this for me
- I expected to finish my essay today
NOTE that some verbs cannot be followed by an infinitive:
I ENJOY GOING TO THE THEATER
I ENJOY TO GO TO THE THEATER
