They are OMNIVORES.

ADULTS eat mostly mollusks. They also eat small fishes, insects and plant roots.

THE YOUNG ones eat almost exclusively insects.

IN THE FLOOD SEASON the males dig a nest in the mud. The female lay the eggs and the male protect them during 8 WEEKS.
