STI TESTING 101

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can be asymptomatic. Getting tested is the best way to know for sure whether you have contracted an STI.

STEP 1

You will need to find someplace near you that offers STI testing. Your primary care physician may offer services, or you can search for a clinic in your area.

STEP 2

Tell your provider about your sexual history. Mention any symptoms, like abnormal discharge or sores in the genital area. Be honest with your provider so they can give you the correct tests.

STEP 3

Your provider will administer the needed tests. These may be urine tests or blood tests, or swabs. Usually, tests are quick and painless.

STEP 4

Depending on the results of your test, your provider may prescribe you medication, like antibiotics, to help clear the infection and prevent further complications.
