Outside of your league, a lot of fantasy football members use apps like Chalkboard and Discord to talk to people who aren’t in their league.
"To the average ear, the sound of two guys talking fantasy football does not really sound like English, but the people within the community can directly translate and explain anything said during the conversation." - TJ Collins
Within your league, you can message through the chats that the ESPN and Yahoo apps provide for league discussions.
"The communication can vary from texting a league member to review a trade that’s been sent to texting another league member to pick somebody up the waiver so an opponent of common interest can’t win." - TJ Collins
- Who should I pick up this week?
- Trade advice
- Start/sit advice
- Trading discussions
- Waiver wire add/drops
- General football talk
- Start/sit talks
Conclusion
Even though it is just a game, fantasy football helps to:
- create a community that lets competitively-minded people compete against each other
- develop a virtual discourse community that branches off into subgroups
- connect football fans through in-league and out-of-league chats
