The true story of the three little pigs, by A. Wolf Jon Scieska

"Woolfe: Red Hood Diaries" is an action video game that offers a dark take on the classic fairy tale. Players navigate the world of Red Riding Hood, confronting enemies and uncovering secrets. The game's dark visuals and soundtrack create an immersive experience. What I like is the re-imagining of the story that offers a new perspective and the gameplay that stimulates our interest. Overall, "Woolfe : Red Hood Diaries" offers a captivating adventure that combines nostalgia with innovative storytelling, making it an interesting game for fans of fantasy and action games.

Roald Dahl's "Little Red Riding Hood" is a fun remake that breathes new life into the classic tale. What I appreciated most was the way Dahl uses humor in the story, making it more interesting and fun to read. His creative additions and unexpected twists keep us on our toes from start to finish. What's more, the characters are well-developed and interesting, especially the wolf and the courageous Little Red Riding Hood. All in all, Roald Dahl's talents shine through in this interpretation, making it a fun and enjoyable read for children and adults alike.

"A Long, Long Sleep" is a science-fiction novel by Anna Sheehan that reimagines the Sleeping Beauty tale in a futuristic setting. While the story is intriguing, I found the execution left something to be desired. The pace is slow and the characters lack depth, making it difficult to become attached to them. What's more, the plot twists were predictable, diminishing the story's impact. Overall, despite the originality of the story, "A Long, Long Sleep" didn't hold my interest and left me feeling disappointed and dissatisfied.

"Fallen Princesses" is a series of photographs by Dina Goldstein that reimagines Disney princesses in a modern context, facing difficult situations. Although the intention of this series is to offer a critical commentary on societal norms and gender roles, I found it disturbing and distressing to see the characters of my childhood depicted in such bleak scenarios. The contrast between the fantastical world of fairy tales and the harsh realities depicted in the photographs disturbed me. As a result, although "Fallen Princesses" is intriguing, it may not appeal to everyone due to the depiction of iconic Disney characters in hard circumstances.

"Cinder", written by Marissa Meyer, is a futuristic retelling of Cinderella, set in a world where cyborgs coexist with humans. Meyer's imaginative reimagining not only breathes new life into the classic fairy tale, but also challenges societal norms around identity and discrimination. Through the protagonist, Cinder, a cyborg mechanic, the novel encourages readers to question prejudices and preconceptions. By blending fantasy with reality, "Cinder" tackles contemporary issues and encourages readers to reconsider their views on diversity and inclusion in society.

"Lazy Potter" is a parody by youtuber Awesomeness that humorously reimagines the Harry Potter universe, portraying its characters as quiet and uninspired. Through satire, it criticizes society's attitudes to hard work and ambition, questioning the glorification of effortless success. By hijacking the fantastical elements of the original series, "Lazy Potter" encourages audiences to reflect on their own values and priorities. Through a humorous video, it invites society to question cultural norms and encourages a closer examination of the implications of complacency and mediocrity.

Stephen King's "Misery" is a gripping psychological thriller, and the excerpt I studied kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. What I liked most was the way King builds tension and suspense throughout the story. The characters are very well presented, and Annie Wilkes is one of the most frightening and interesting characters I've seen in literature. The plot is captivating, with unexpected twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. All in all, "Misery" is a fascinating read that makes you want to read the whole book and watch the film adaptation.

I found "The Elephant Man" to be a moving piece on many levels. What struck me most was the lack of humanity of some, and the compassion and acceptance of others. I was moved by the emotion of the film and the power of the story, and felt a great deal of empathy and understanding. In the small excerpt I saw, the performances were outstanding, bringing complex characters to life with remarkable authenticity. Overall, "The Elephant Man" had a profound impact on me and reminded me of the importance of compassion and acceptance in our society.

Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" is a classic novel that explores the themes of ambition, responsibility and the consequences of playing God. While many appreciate its literary importance, I personally didn't enjoy studying it. The language and style seemed too old-fashioned, which prevented me from engaging with the story. In addition, I found the pace slow and some passages repetitive. All in all, although I understand its importance in literary history, "Frankenstein" didn't captivate me as much as I'd hoped, but maybe that's because I don't get hooked on this style of story.

Patricia Piccinini's "The Comforter" is a thought-provoking sculpture of a human-animal hybrid creature cradling a human figure. While some may find its surrealist nature intriguing, I personally found it uninteresting. The combination of human and animal characteristics disturbed me, and the overall aesthetic was not to my taste. The sculpture's theme of blurring the boundaries between species made me uncomfortable, and I don't think I was alone. Overall, while I appreciate the artistic concept, "The Comforter" didn't appeal to me personally.

"Twilight", written by Stephenie Meyer, recounts the supernatural romance between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a vampire. Meyer redefines the traditional notion of the monster, presenting vampires as complex beings capable of love and compassion. Through Edward's struggle against his predatory nature and Bella's unconditional acceptance, the novel challenges stereotypes and explores themes of identity and prejudice. By humanizing vampires, "Twilight" encourages readers to question the nature of monsters, suggesting that they can be shaped by society's perceptions, with feelings rather than horrific evil.

"Corpse Bride", an animated film directed by Tim Burton, depicts a poignant love story between Victor and Emily, a deceased bride. Despite her undead status, Emily embodies compassion and kindness, challenging the notion of monsters as purely evil entities. Through her character, the film explores themes of loneliness, acceptance and the beauty of imperfection. Emily reminds us that monsters are not always what they seem, evil and terrifying, and encourages audiences to look beyond appearances and accept the inner values of others.

Twilight

Monsters are born from a tapestry of human fears, insecurities, and cultural constructs. They embody societal anxieties, reflecting the darkest corners of the human psyche. Often, they represent the "other," embodying elements deemed undesirable or threatening. Yet, monsters are not merely creatures of fiction; they symbolize real-world phenomena such as oppression, prejudice, and environmental destruction. Understanding what monsters are made of requires delving into the depths of our collective consciousness, unraveling the threads of myth, folklore, and psychology. Ultimately, monsters serve as mirrors, challenging us to confront our fears and navigate the complexities of existence with courage and empathy.

Introduction to poetry Billy Collins

Dead Poets Society Peter Weir

Ezra Pound's "In a Station of the Metro" is a very interesting poem which, with remarkable clarity and economy of words, draws us a magnificent landscape. What I love most about it is Pound's ability to conjure up a vivid image of the bustling subway station in just two lines. The juxtaposition of "faces" and "petals on a black, wet bough" creates a visual contrast and invites the reader to contemplate the beauty of life. Ezra Pound's minimalist approach and precise language leave an unsettling impression, making these two lines a very interesting poem.

"Dead Poets Society" is a poignant film directed by Peter Weir that explores the transformative power of education and the importance of creativity. What struck me most was the inspiring portrait of a teacher who encourages his students to think for themselves and pursue their passions. The performances are outstanding, especially that of Robin Williams as the unconventional teacher, John Keating. The film's message about the importance of seizing opportunity and pursuing one's dreams touched me deeply, leaving me feeling inspired and determined to pursue my passions.

"Introduction to Poetry" by Billy Collins is a poem that, despite its popularity, didn't hold my interest. While I appreciate Collins' attempt to illuminate the process of interpreting poetry, I found the metaphor of "torturing a suspect to extract a confession" a bit overdone and disturbing. Also, while the playful tone of the poem may be pleasing to some readers, I personally prefer poems that delve deeper into themes and emotions. Overall, even though I understand the poem, "Introduction to Poetry" failed to leave a mark on my mind.

"Fallen Lyrical Ballads" by William Wordsworth is a collection of poems that didn't interest me as much as I'd hoped. Although Wordsworth is known for his connection with nature and his ability to capture its beauty in his poems, I found that some of the poems in this collection lacked depth and originality. The language and themes seemed somewhat too old-fashioned, so I wasn't interested in the poems. Overall, although "Fallen Lyrical Ballads" is an interesting collection, the poems I studied didn't make an impression on me.

Fallen Lyrical Ballads

Introduction to poetry

Shakespeare's poem "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun" does not date from the Anglo-Saxon period, but it does have some similarities. It speaks of love and beauty in a simple and honest way, just like Anglo-Saxon poetry. The poem uses a steady rhythm and words that are easy to understand, just like the poems of that era. Although it does not exactly resemble Anglo-Saxon poetry, Shakespeare's poem does have some points in common with it, which shows that old styles of poetry can still influence new ones.

Emily Brontë's "Love and Friendship" is a poem that reflects the characteristics of Anglo-Saxon poetry. Although Emily Brontë is not an Anglo-Saxon poet, her poem embodies the spirit of Anglo-Saxon verse through its use of alliteration, repetition and sustained rhythm. It explores themes of companionship, loyalty and the complexity of human relationships, reminiscent of the themes of traditional Anglo-Saxon literature. Although written in the nineteenth century, "Love and Friendship" incorporates the stylistic and thematic elements of Anglo-Saxon poetry, illustrating its lasting influence on English literature.

Anglo-Saxon poetry embodies distinct characteristics and specificities that define its rich literary tradition. Its hallmark features include alliteration, kennings, and caesuras, which contribute to its rhythmic and evocative nature. Themes often revolve around heroism, fate, and the struggle between good and evil, reflecting the cultural values and beliefs of the time. Moreover, the oral tradition of storytelling played a significant role, shaping the poetry's structure and performance. Despite its age, Anglo-Saxon poetry continues to captivate modern audiences with its timeless themes and skills, serving as a window into the cultural and linguistic heritage of the early English-speaking world.

The Haunted Palace Edgar Allan Poe

The Nightmare Fuseli

Edgar Allan Poe's "The Haunted Palace" is a haunting poem that appeals to readers thanks to its evocative imagery and dark atmosphere. What I found most compelling was the use of symbolism to explore themes of decadence and madness. The vivid descriptions of a once glorious palace, now overrun by darkness and despair, create a sense of disquiet that lingers throughout the reading. The rhythm and melodic flow of Poe's verse reinforce the poem's dark allure, drawing readers in. Overall, "The Haunted Palace" is a hypnotic work of Gothic poetry thanks to its beauty and profound themes.

"The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe is a short story that immerses us in the theme of human psychology with a strong plot. What I really liked was Poe's writing style, each line is interesting and accentuates suspense and dread. The narrator's gradual descent into madness is described with great realism, forcing readers to delve into the twisted recesses of his mind to try and understand him. The use of symbolism and vivid imagery adds complexity to the story, leaving a perfect plot. All in all, "The Tell-Tale Heart" is a masterpiece of Gothic literature, both captivating and frightening.

The Tell-Tale Heart

The Haunted Palace

"The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe is a poem revered for its chilling narrative and its profound exploration of themes such as grief and madness. However, while Poe's mastery of language is undeniable and his ability to create a haunting atmosphere is interesting, the repetitive refrain of 'nevermore' struck me as somewhat excessive and tiresome. Whilst I liked the dark and ominous tone of the poem, I couldn't help feeling that it lacked the depth and complexity that I'm used to reading. Although I admit to being intrigued by the poem on my first reading, "The Raven" ultimately failed to live up to my expectations.

Fuseli's "The Nightmare" is a famous and intriguing painting, but I failed to appreciate its enigmatic allure. While I can appreciate the quality of the artist's work and his ability to create an intriguing composition, the painting left me feeling unsettled. The depiction of a demonic figure hovering over a vulnerable sleeping woman evoked a sense of unease. The dark atmosphere of the painting contributed to my lack of understanding, which prevented me from appreciating the artistic message of the painting. Despite its importance and interesting message, "The Nightmare" did not appeal to me.

"Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe tells the tragic love story of the narrator and Annabel Lee. Although it is a poem, it calls into question the reliability of the narrator. The use of the first-person point of view and the narrator's intense emotions make us wonder whether his account is entirely accurate. The narrator's enormous turmoil and his idealised portrayal of Annabel Lee may cast doubt on the reliability of his point of view. Therefore, without it being obvious, the poem invites readers to question the narrator's reliability and subjectivity.

Edgar Allan Poe's "The Gold-Bug" is a short story that questions the reliability of the narrator. Through the main character's obsessive pursuit of a treasure and his encounters with other enigmatic characters, Poe questions the narrator's perceptions and mental stability. The story's strange plot and mysterious atmosphere blur the boundaries between reality and illusion, leading the reader to question the narrator's credibility. Poe's story challenges the reader to discern truth from deception, showing the extent to which the narrator's reliability is called into question.

"The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Fall of the House of Usher" both delve into the intricate realms of unreliable narration, showcasing the blurred lines between sanity and madness. Poe masterfully crafts narrators whose perspectives are clouded by their own psychological complexities, leaving readers to question the veracity of their accounts. Through unreliable narration, Poe invites readers to critically analyze the subjective nature of truth and perception. These tales serve as cautionary reminders of the fragility of human psyche and the inherent biases that color our understanding of reality. Ultimately, they compel readers to question not only the reliability of the narrators but also the very nature of truth itself.

Radiohead's "Creep" is an emotive song that strikes a chord with listeners with its honesty and depth. What really sets it apart is its exploration of themes such as self-doubt and nostalgia. The lyrics, written by Thom Yorke, appeal to people who may have experienced the same feelings described, making the song relatable. What's more, the melody creates an immersive sonic experience that envelops me in a wave of emotions every time I listen to it. All in all, "Creep" is a timeless anthem that I love, and that offers me comfort every time.

"Billy Elliot" is a poignant film by Stephen Daldry about a young boy who discovers his passion for ballet in a judgmental family environment. What really touched me was the exploration of themes such as family, identity and the pursuit of dreams. Through the performance of young Jamie Bell as Billy, the audience is invited to witness the courage it takes to defy society's expectations. The depiction of the miners' strike adds depth and context to Billy's personal struggles. Overall, "Billy Elliot" is a moving cinematic experience that highlights the importance of staying true to oneself despite the odds.

"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Mark Haddon presents an intriguing story from the perspective of a character with Asperger's Syndrome, Christopher Boone. While I admire the author's innovative approach and the insights it offers into neurodiversity, I found the story lacking in emotional resonance. The detached tone of the narration prevented me from empathising with the characters and fully engaging with their experiences. As a result, although the novel offers a unique perspective, it did not captivate me as much as I had hoped.

Edgar Allan Poe's "Alone" is a poem about loneliness and the profound sense of isolation experienced by the author. While the exploration of these emotions is thought-provoking, I found some aspects of the poem uninteresting. For example, the repetitive structure of the poem, with its repeated refrain " From childhood's hour I have not been / As others were", struck me as monotonous. Although the poem effectively conveys the author's feelings, the lack of narrative progression or vivid imagery made me lose interest in the poem. Although "Alone" offers a glimpse into the human condition, it didn't interest me more than that.

John Locke's "Letter on Toleration" talks about the need to be kind to people who have different beliefs. Locke argues that it is neither right nor helpful to force everyone to believe the same thing. He believes that different ideas can improve society. Locke's writings show how accepting different points of view can make society work better. Artists and authors, like Locke, teach us that everyone is important and can make the world a better place by being kind to others, even if we are not the same.

"The Wrong Rock" is a short film by Michael Cawood about a group of colourful mushrooms living on a rock. When they discover a "bad" rock inhabited by creatures other than themselves, their first reaction is one of fear and hostility. However, through a series of events, they learn to appreciate and embrace their differences, ultimately realising the value of diversity and cooperation. "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee is a book renowned for its denunciation of racial prejudice and moral integrity. What I liked were the characters in the novel, very well presented, especially Atticus Finch, whose dedication to justice is both inspiring and thought-provoking. It immerses the reader in the town of Maycomb, Alabama, and invites reflection on the themes of compassion and the complexity of human nature. All in all, 'To Kill a Mockingbird' is a book I thoroughly enjoyed for its relevance and timeless message.

Ava DuVernay's "When They See Us" is a powerful and emotionally charged film. What I appreciated most about the film was the depiction of the injustices suffered by the Central Park Five, five young black and Latino boys wrongly convicted of a crime they didn't commit. The masterful narration and direction bring their harrowing ordeal to life, highlighting racism and the flaws in the criminal justice system. Overall, "When They See Us" is a poignant reminder of the importance of the search for truth and justice in the face of adversity.

To Kill a Mockingbird (book)

"To Kill a Mockingbird", directed by Robert Mulligan, is a film adaptation of Harper Lee's novel, very faithful to the book. However, the film failed to live up to my expectations. Although the themes of racial injustice are important, I found that the pace was sometimes slow and some scenes were too long. Although the film's message is powerful, I preferred the scenes from the book, which I found boring in the film. Overall, "To Kill a Mockingbird" didn't captivate me as much as the original work.

"The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison is a book that explores deep themes of racial identity and society's standards of beauty. But I didn't enjoy this novel. While I love Morrison's writing style and her ability to tackle difficult subjects, such as the impact of racism on self-esteem, I found the story too difficult to read. Through powerful choreography and music, it depicts the struggles and resilience of marginalised communities in the face of adversity. Like "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Revelations" highlights the impact of racial segregation on social relations, highlighting the injustices suffered by African Americans and arguing for equality and justice.

Jacob Lawrence's 'Migration' series depicts the great migration of African-Americans from the rural South to the urban North in the early 20th century. Through a series of paintings, it illustrates the social and economic upheaval caused by racial segregation in the American South. Like "To Kill a Mockingbird", the series depicts the impact of racism on social relations, highlighting the difficulties faced by African-Americans and their quest for equality. "To Kill a Mockingbird" shows how racial segregation in the Southern US in the early 20th century had serious effects on how people treated each other. The story follows Scout Finch as she grows up, and it reveals the unfair treatment of black people like Tom Robinson. The trial scene demonstrates how racial prejudice influenced the legal system and divided communities. Atticus Finch stands out as someone who fights against these prejudices. Through simple storytelling, Harper Lee's book reminds us of the harmful impact of racism and the importance of treating everyone fairly.
