Learn about

the sin nature

the sin nature

When God made Adam and Eve and put them in the Garden, He gave their volition a big test.God made one rule. They could use their YES buttons to obey, or they could use their NO buttons to disobey.

the sin nature

God said, “You can eat as much as you want from any of the trees in the Garden—except one!” God pointed to that one tree and said,“You must not eat any fruit from this one. That’s an order!”

the sin nature

Adam and Eve did not obey God. They ate from that one tree. They used their NO buttons and did something that did not please God.

the sin nature

When they disobeyed God’s rule, they changed. They were no longer the perfect creatures that God had made—now, they were messed up on the inside.

the sin nature

Their bodies were filled with some invisible, yucky thing we call a sin nature. Can you say that? Sin Nature!

the sin nature

Before they disobeyed God, Adam and Eve felt safe, calm, and happy. But now, they felt ashamed, nervous, scared, angry at each other. They just wanted to use their NO buttons over and over. In fact, they felt so awful that they hid from God. They could no longer understand God. And there was nothing they could do to fix things.

the sin nature

What’s even worse, since they now had a yucky sin nature, everyone born after them—including you—would have one, too. Whew! They sure messed things up, didn’t they?“I know that nothing good dwells in me.” (Rom. 7:18a)

But God’s love is so big, that He decided to give them a way to come back to Him. God gave their volition another big test: they had to choose whether or not they wanted to live with Him in His heaven home someday. They could listen to God’s lesson, then they could say YES to God or NO to God.
