A Medieval Feast
They had Cereal too
In the Middle Ages, cereals like barley, oats, rye, and wheat played a critical role in sustaining the population's diet, providing fuel and necessary nutrients to hardworking people, keeping them healthy.
Fruits & Vegetables
Vegetables like cabbage, carrots, onions, leeks, and turnips were affordable and common. They were prepared using basic techniques. They were enjoyed by both the rich and poor.
Fruits were seasonal and preserving them was a challenge. Dried pears, apples, and other fruits like dates, figs, raisins, and prunes were used to add sweetness to desserts and dishes.
Meat
Meat was a staple of medieval diets. People ate beef, mutton, hog, and chicken. Nobles enjoyed more exotic meats, like peacocks and whales, roasted or stewed.
Drinks
Medieval people used to drink specialised beverages because water filters were not available. These drinks were more nutritious. They even had therapeutic benefits. Water, on the other hand, was less beneficial due to limited experimentation.
It's Time to test your knowledge, with a quiz!
