Transcript
This ad was produced by McDonald's, which is known as a multibillion-dollar corporation. They are well-known all around the world. Even though they have gone through many controversies for having fake food, they keep making billions of dollars. McDonald's has adjusted to fit the market.
Producers
McDonald's is persuading its audience to make a quick stop to "refresh" themselves with their beverages. Even though this ad is attempting to sell beverages, usually stopping at McDonald's also involves purchasing food of some sort. It puts an emphasis on the value of staying cool on a hot summer day. This ad is subconsciously saying that their drinks are superior to others.
Purpose and Values
This ad suggests ethos because McDonald's has been a big competitor in the food and beverage industry. They are reliable at providing quick and refreshing drinks.
Appeals
As we discussed in class, red is associated with hunger, and yellow is associated with friendliness. It is bold and stands out against the blue sky behind it. The white text is easy to read; it is big for easy readability.Brown is not often used with the rest of the colors, so it stands out as a prominent part of the ad. The McDonald's logo is small in the lower right-hand corner. This is likely because the font is commonly used by McDonald's. Because it's such a big company, red is often associated with it as well. The temperature stands out because it is very obviously different from the rest of the ad. This is where the eyes are drawn first. It reminds the audience that it is hot and they should probably treat themselves.
Visual Rhetoric
This glass of Coca-Cola is significantly large in this advertisement. Coca-Cola is a popular beverage among all age groups in the United States. Because this is a soda rather than water, it suggests that the audience values taste over nutritional value. Also as mentioned in the "purpose" window, the audience prefers staying cool in the hot temperatures.
