History

Electronic music is a musical genre that uses electronic instruments and devices to create sounds and rhythms. It is characterized by experimentation with the timbre, form, structure, and expression of music. Electronic music originated in the 1950s with the development of synthesizer technology, which allowed sounds to be generated and modified electronically. Some of the pioneers of this genre were composers such as Pierre Schaeffer, Karlheinz Stockhaun, John Cage and Edgard Varèse, who explored the sonic possibilities of musique concrète, aleatoric music, serial music and electroacoustic music 12. Since then, electronic music has evolved into a variety of subgenres, including techno, house, trance, dubstep, and the misnamed EDM (Electronic Dance Music). These subgenres have influenced each other and incorporated elements from other musical styles, such as rock, pop, jazz, funk, hip hop and reggae. Some of the most representative artists of electronic music are Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Deadmau5 and Skrillex 13. Electronic music has had a huge impact on popular culture, especially in the club, festival, raves, and disco scenes. It has also been used as a means of artistic, social and political expression, as well as a form of experimentation and entertainment.
