Russia's Poor Working Standards

Russia's economy was heavily agrarian, with serfdom abolished but peasants often living in poverty and lacking land ownership. Due to this, they were upset with their role in society. Also adding discontent among industrial workers due to poor working conditions and low wages in urban areas.

1890s

Rapid Industrilization& New Reign

Rapid industrialization led to the growth of an urban working class and a nascent labor movement. Nicholas II ascended to the throne in 1894, but his reign was marked by political repression, censorship, and a lack of political reform.

1904-1905

Russo-Japanese War

The Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905) ended in defeat for Russia, exposing military weaknesses and stirring discontent at home. The 1905 Russian Revolution: Widespread protests and strikes erupted, demanding political reforms, constitutional government, and improved living conditions

1906-1911

The October Manifesto

The October Manifesto of 1905 granted civil liberties and established the State Duma, a legislative assembly, but political reforms were limited. Political repression continued, and tensions persisted between the monarchy, the Duma, and various political groups.

1914

World War I

World War I: Russia's entry into World War I put immense strain on the country's resources and led to food shortages and military failures.

1917

Russian Revolution Pt.1

February Revolution: A series of protests, strikes, and military mutinies in Petrograd (now St. Petersburg) in February 1917 led to the abdication of Nicholas II and the collapse of the monarchy. Provisional Government: A provisional government was established, but it struggled to address the country's problems and meet the people's demands.

1917

Russian Revolution Pt.2

Bolshevik Party and October Revolution: The Bolshevik Party, led by Vladimir Lenin, staged the October Revolution in Petrograd, overthrowing the Provisional Government and establishing Soviet rule. The Russian monarchy officially came to an end with the abdication and subsequent exile of Nicholas II and his family.
