Who was Eratosthenes?
Eratosthenes was a mathematician, astronomer and geographer of Cyrenaic origin.
his story
He was born in 276 BC. c, he studied in Alexandria and for some time in Athens. La Suda claims that, after losing his sight, he let himself starve to death at the age of 80; However, Lucian of Samosata says that he reached the age of 82. He had a wide variety of knowledge for study: astronomer, poet, geographer, and philosopher.
The sieve of Eratosthenes
What did Eratosthenes discover with his sieve? Which allows you to isolate and determine all prime numbers up to a given natural number. But...What is that? Allows you to find all the minor prime numbers of another. Between 2 and n. 1 We cross out the divisors of two. 2 We cross out the divisors of three. 3 We cross out the divisors of five. 4 We cross out the divisors of seven. And finally, we have the prime numbers.
