Kind of food
• Energy-producing − Group I: bread, cereals, pasta… – Group II: oil, butter… • Body-building – Group III: milk and derivatives – Group IV: meat, egg, fish, nuts… • Body-regulating – Group V: vegetables – Group VI: fruits
Minerals are inorganic substances required by the body in small amounts. Minerals are involved in the formation of bones and teeth; they are essential constituents of body fluids and tissues. Some examples are: iron, magnesium, calcium...
Include food such as bread, potatoes, pasta, rice and wholegrain cereals like porridge. Carbohydrates are nutrients which give our bodies energy. These foods also give us fibre which helps us to go to the toilet regularly so you should choose whole grains.
Activity: Event-Based Meal Planning Objective: To help students understand how dietary choices can be adapted to meet the nutritional needs and preferences of different events and situations. Example: Birthday Party (Dominant Food Group: Fruits and Vegetables) Meal: A colorful fruit platter with a variety of fresh, sliced fruits like watermelon, berries, and pineapple. Dominant Food Group: Fruits and Vegetables Event scenarios:
- Sports Competition
- Family Picnic
- Dinner Date
- Healthy Breakfast
- Festival Celebration
Meat, fish, eggs, sea food, beans, dairy and nuts are all sources of protein. Proteins are made from a long chain of amino acids. Protein is a nutrient which is important to help us grow and help our bodies to repair themselves. These foods also have something called iron in them and this helps keep our blood healthy.
Vitamin means ‘vital for life’. Vitamins are compounds necessary for the healthy functioning of our bodies. We need vitamins to help us grow, to see correctly, to form bones, muscles, skin and organs, as well as to help us battle infections. Includes whole grain bread and cereals, vegetables, fruit, meat, fish, poultry, eggs, nuts and legumes, and dairy products
Fats, spreads and oils include foods like olive oil, vegetable oil, butter and margarine. They allow us to store energy for a long time. Mayonnaise and some salad dressings are also included in the section because they have lots of oil in them. Nevertheless you should choose healthy fats such as olive oil, nuts and avocado.
However it depends on many factors...
- Food access
- Taste preferences
- Trauma history
- Time
- SPORT OR ACTIVITY
- Cooking skills
- INDIVIDUAL NUTRITION NEEDS
- Cultutral food
- Beliefs about nutrition
- NUTRITION EDUCATION
