True Pyramids
2625-1759 BCE
- The mastabas and stepped pyramids eventually evolved into true pyramids
- Smooth casing blocks were used on each side
- The true pyramid shape was a symbol of the sun god Ra

Rectangular Tombs
4000-3510 BCE
- Tombs were rectangular in shape and looked like the homes of the living
