Why was Ivan the Terrible important?
-He was important mainly because of his contributions to his country: the conquest of Siberia carried out by Yermak Timoféyevich, the creation of a new legal code, the Sudébnik, the centralization of power in the capital, the creation of the Zemsky Sobor and the Oprichnina, the conquest of the Tatar khanates of Kazan and Astrakhan and major internal reforms, such as the reform of the army and the revision of the legal code.
-He was named tsar and prince of all Russia at the Dormition Cathedral in Moscow.
-He created the Oprichnina, a police force that spread terror and destroyed the power of the boyars, whose possessions passed to the Crown. From that purge a new bureaucracy and large estates emerged that remained in the hands of the tsar. The people understood that it was no longer the haughty boyars who ruled, but the tsar himself through his agents.
+ info
Ivan was successful as Tsar of Moscow. He created new legislation that would prevent boyars from murdering peasants without reason. This tactic weakened the boyars, and Ivan would continue to do so throughout his reign.
The tsar also conquered some surrounding areas, such as Khazan and Astrakhan.
Ivan had access to the Caspian Sea through the acquired territory, but needed a route to the Baltic Sea. To achieve this, Ivan invaded Livonia. Moscow had a better army and should have quickly defeated Livonia, but it didn't. The Grand Master of Livonia surrendered to the Lithuanians and invited other Protestants to join the war. This war ended up lasting more than twenty years.
He created Russia's first form of secret police, the Oprichniki. They were allowed to do whatever they wanted without repercussions. Murders, robberies and sexual assaults were common activities for them. The Oprichniki exiled merchants and boyars and then seized their property.
In 1571, the Tatar army invaded Russia. The oprichniki told Ivan that they were not a threat. Ivan did not prepare, and the invading army reached Moscow. The army was so large that Ivan gathered his wealth and fled the city. Moscow was sacked, and the Oprichniki were punished and disbanded when Ivan returned.

curious aspects of biography
He was born on August 25, 1530 and died on March 18, 1584, he had up to 7 marriages.
He had six children: Ana, María, Dimitri, Iván, Eudoxia and Teodoro I.
His fury spared no one, not even his son, whom he killed with his own hands in a fit of rage.
personal opinion
I believe that he was very important for Russia and for its colonizations, since he contributed and collaborated a lot
