Sequence of Events Why is sequencing events an important skill to learn ?

The ability to sequence events in a text is a key comprehension strategy, especially for narrative texts. It enables retelling, which in turn enables summarizing. It promotes self-monitoring and rereading.

First, Greg finds out that the kind of wrestling in Mr. Underwood's class is totally different from the wresting on TV. Next, Mr. Underwood asks for volunteers so he could demonstrate the "fireman's carry". Next, Mr. Underwood demonstrates the fireman's carry on Greg, and Greg's singlet almost falls off. Then, Greg is paired up to wrestle Fregly. Finally, Fregley pins Greg.

First, Greg wanted to start to lift weights. Next, he askes his parents for a weight set, but they said, "No". Next, Greg makes weights from milk and juice jugs, and a bench press from an ironing board and boxes. Next, he asked Rowley to come over and lift weights. Then, Greg does not help Rowley lift the weight from his chest. Finally, Rowley goes home.

First, Greg wanted a weight set for Christmas. Next, Greg's mom would not buy Greg a weight set, so he made his own. Next, Greg asks Rowley to work out with him. Then, Rowley was lifting weights and need help, but Greg did not help him. Finally, Roley had enough and he went home.
