Natural Resource: Oil

Natural Resources & Non renewable resorces

Natural Resources The concept of Natural resources refers to any asset extracted from nature, without human interfernce, that can be used for immaterial or material benefits. What resorces classifies natural resources has varied over time. Some examples are forrest, ground water and minerals.(Britannica, 2023). Natural resources play an essental role for our societies. For example, the availability of ground water is something I usually take for granted back home in Sweden. To be able to have drinking water in the tap is

When fossil fuels, for example, oil is used in different prodyction areas it increases the greenhouse gases within the earth's atmosphear, which is directly linked to the rise of global temperature. This causes changes wather patterns and also threaten food production, to mention a few things (UN, n.d). Even though the knowledge of this dilemma oil, and other fossil fuels, are highly consumed on a global level. The sector with the highest demand of oil is road and transportation (OECD,2020). The highest consuming countries of oil are the United States and China, thus the worlds largest economies (Statista, 2022). Oil an played an important role in theindustrial revolution. It is a steppingstone on which modern societies are built (Study, n.d). It continues to be highly relevant in today's society. The discussion of switching to reneable sources for energy alongside devolping more efficiant ways to burn fuels are the main solutions for the excessive use of oil. How the transition will be made requires multilateral agreements as well as awareness (Council of Europe, n.d). The Paris Agreement is seen as such a lundmark to combat climate change, which thus is synonomous to restrict usage of oil (UN, n.d).

very comfortable. Since moving to Mexico I realize that the consumption of plastic bottles is way higher here due to the fact that tap water isn't drinakble.

Non-reneable resources Non-renewable is used to label a specific type of resource. Non-reneable resources can not naturally repelenish themselves, thus this means that these type of sources are limited in supply (National Geographic, n.d).To exemply this we are going going to discuss more detailed aspects regarding the usage of oil.

Conclusion Future of Non-renewable resources

As a final remark I would like stress the importance of the transistion to use reneabale sources of energy to establish healthy societies that can meet basic human needs (UN, n.d). The documentary Zeitgeist (2012) discusses the importance of environment when shaping individuals. The documentary mainly revolves around the missconception that heritage is crucial for individuals ability to succed in society. To conect the role of environment to the topic of natural and reneable resources it is possible to arague that the impact the climate change has and will have will create settings that does not promote healthy individuals. How to reach the goal require a worldwide collaboration. Neoliberlism advocayers thus emphazises actions from other actors then goverments. Essential for this discipline is building bridges to make countries codependent on eachother. This is an interesting point of view which holds some valid points. I think that codependence increases incentives for all parties involve to make the transition to reneable energy. Solution can also be adressed on a political and individual level. On a political level politicians can use taxes do decrease demand of flying for example. Subsidize enviornmental friendly transportation options can also make the transition smoother. On a personal level we as individuals must reflect on our consumption habbits. For example I try to by as much of my clothes in second hand stores to minimize my environmental footprint.

Oil Reserves, 2020. (2020). [Photgraph]. Taken October 8 from https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/oil-proved-reserves?time=latest

The map above shows countries where the color indicates how well established oil reserve each country has. The data is from 2020. As we can see countries where oil is found tend to have a larger oil reserve, for example, in the Middle east and Venezuela (Our world in Data, 2020).
