The countries of Central Europe: France, Andorra, Monaco, Switzerland, Liechtein, Austria, and Germany are defined by a combination of natural landmarks and historic national boundaries that give this region a distinct identity.

france

France, Europe´s third largest country, is surrounded by mostly natural boundaries, including the English Channel in the northwest, the Bay of Biscay in the west, the Pyrenees and Mditeranean Sea in the south, and the Alps and the Rhine river in the east.

SWITZERLAND

The landlocked country of Switzerland is perhaps best known for its mountainous terrain. The spectacular Swiss Alps which include the Matterhorn a challenge to mountain climbers worldwide covers the southern 50% of Switzerland and the Jura Mountains cover another 10% in the north.

germany

The low Countries

The Netherlands, Beligium, and Luxemburgo occupy some of the lowest land in Europe. The low Countries have a multitude low-lying inlets and rivers, and in the south, low-lying hills rise to the wide Ardennes Plateau.

The Spanish called the area Spanich Netherlands and tried to force Catholicism on the Protestant Hollanders of the north.

The Netherlands

Although the kingdom of the Netherlands is the official name, most people know this country simply as the Netherlands or Holland.

belgium

Formation and Early History

Belgium's history is rich and dates back to ancient times. The region of modern-day Belgium was inhabited by Celtic and Germanic tribes before being conquered by the Roman Empire around 50 BC.

luxemburgo

Foundation

Early History

Luxembourg was founded in 963 when Count Siegfried acquired a rocky promontory where he built a fortress known as Lucilinburhuc, which eventually evolved into the name 'Luxembourg.'

The city grew from a medieval fortress into a strategic and bustling hub due to its prime location at the crossroads of Eurpe's major trade routes.
