Project Plan

  • Creating engaging content that captures an audience's attention but priority is always that it must contain clear, concise and useful content.
  • We must also try to design for a range of learners with differing learning preferences and accessibility needs.
  • Using a design-driven process, ADDIE, but in an agile manner, with the aim of creating an engaging, active learning course by providing content with “challenge, choice, and consequences”.
Design document should answer:
  • Project Context
  • Project Requirements
  • Learning Requirements
  • Course Objectives
  • Instructional Strategy
  • Assessment Strategy
  • Course Format Or Structure (Skeleton).
  • Development Tools
  • Agree timelines and dates

Design Document

  • Pre-meeting scoping of relevant material
  • Design meeting /workshop to conduct a needs analysis with the Subject Matter Expert to identify the ‘Who, Why, What and How’ and produce a design document.

Analysis

Storyboard
  • More detail and outlining the graphics, images and video, on-screen script and voice-over script, types of assessment and links.
  • Accessibility needs / learning styles:
    • 7/7 and 6/6 rule
    • Visual learners - images, videos and graphics
    • Auditory learners - voiceover provided on video - would like on all text
    • Kinesthetic learners - interactive quizzes / sorting exercise / scenario
    • Reading/writing learners - on screen text
    • Accessibility / UX considerations - subtitles, video transcript, voiceover, chunking of information, font style and size, colour and contrast. Easy to navigate with recognised buttons, help/contact buttons.
Screenplan / Wireframe
  • Design document and shows how the course flows.
  • Detailed course outline, including modules, topics, and learning objectives.
  • Adult learning theories
  • Using a scaffolded approach to fill the learning gap.
  • Shows opportunities to do, reflect, interpret and implement
  • Touchpoints to drive engagement using 5 eLearning design principles:
    • Anticipatory set, Instructional input, Guided practice, Closure and Evaluation, Independent practice and links to more learning opportunities
  • Develop a detailed course outline, including modules, topics, and learning objectives.
  • Choose appropriate technologies, such as e-learning authoring tools and multimedia elements, based on the analysis.

Design

  • Create course content using selected authoring tools with a focus on engagement and interactivity.
  • Work closely / regular reviews with the SME to ensure the accuracy and relevance of content.
  • Develop assessments and interactive scenarios to enhance learner engagement.

Development

  • Integrate the course into the Learning Management System.
  • Conduct a pilot test with a small group of physicians to gather feedback on content and usability.
  • Promotion and Launch of course.

Implementation

  • Gather feedback throughout from SME.
  • Gather feedback from the pilot test and make necessary revisions.
  • LMS data on user engagement, completion, results, etc.
  • Implement a feedback cycle to continuously improve the course based on user input: end-user survey - ratings and feedback.

Evaluation

Interactivity Example

  • Virtual Surgery Simulation: Create a virtual surgery scenario where physicians can interactively perform a heart valve replacement. This simulation allows them to make decisions, experience consequences, and learn from their choices in a risk-free environment.

Interactivity Example

  • Interactive Surgery Simulation: Step by step guide to the surgery, preferably using video of the procedures, but images where not.

Interactivity Example

  • Interactive Surgery Simulation knowledge check.

Communication Plan

  • Target audience: Identify the target audience (physicians) and understand their preferred communication channels
  • Messaging: Develop clear and compelling messages highlighting the value of the course (to the patient, physician, hospital, etc.), emphasizing its contribution to improved patient care.
  • Metrics and Feedback:
    • Implement tracking mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of each communication channel.
    • Encourage participants to provide feedback and share their learning experiences through testimonials.
