Donut or Doughnut ?

The origin of the donut or the doughnut is in the North of America in 1950

Dougnhut is eaten at Christmas, but without the hole in the middle. It was only later that the hole in the famous donut was introduced. The reason for this? Some people thought that the centre of the cake was undercooked. So a hole was drilled to remedy the problem. It was in 1809 that the donut became THE national pastry in the USA. At the time, it was widely eaten on the battlefield by American soldiers in Uncle Sam's army.

Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.

In another bowl, combine the eggs (beaten), sugar and vanilla. Mix until thick.

Combine the milk and melted butter, add the flour mixture and beat until smooth.

On a floured board, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm. Cut out the doughnuts using a bowl or similar.

Fry for one minute or until lightly browned, then turn over with a skimmer to the other side and cook for another minute.

Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.
