The poem relates the deeds of Beowulf, nephew of the king of the Geats. Beowulf goes the the royal place of the king of Denmark, where he fights against the monster Grendel. The hero grabbed his arm e finally cuts it off, after which the monster flees to his cave mortally wounded and dies there, then he kills the monster's mother, too. Beowulf finally free the Danes from Grendel's menacing. Some 50 years later, the hero fights against a dragon and, although he wins, he loses his life.
