A TRUE STYLE ICON Equal parts symbol and legend, the Lady Dior made its début on Lady Diana’s arm, launching from there into its extraordinary destiny. An architectural homage to the House’s excellence, this iconic cannage creation reinvents itself through the collections in a multitude of colors, sizes, and ever-exceptional materials.

? Cannage

An old fashion technique of weaving on a frame using rattan cane, first appeared on the seats and backs of chairs in the mid 18th century. The decorative motif soon became synonymous with furniture design throughout Western Europe during the reign of Louis XV, having appeared on sofas, armchairs and headboards.

Nearly two centuries later, Christian Dior debuted his first collection for his namesake French couture house amongst a sea of eighteenth century cannage chairs. Monsieur Dior, seemingly enchanted by the furniture’s design, began experimenting with the chair’s old fashion canning technique, eventually employing the pattern as a decorative motif for the brand’s “Eau Fraîche” perfume in 1953.

The accessory quickly became one of Lady Diana’s go-to pieces, and she wore it during all of her outings, going as far as requesting a navy blue version to match her eyes.

Lady Art Project

The Dior Lady Art project gives painters, sculptors and designers carte blanche to transform this icon according to their artistic vision, with the House’s virtuoso techniques and craftsmanship at their disposal. The Lady Dior then becomes a unique work of art, merging heritage and creative visions.

Zhang Huan

Passionate about Buddhist philosophy, the themes explored by Zhang Huan include the cycles of life and death, the body-mind relationship and the role of memory. He works with water, blood, ice and ashes in provocative performances that push his own physical and psychological limits. For Dior, he transposes his universe onto four unique creations that seem to come to life when watched.
