The U.S. constitution ratified in1788

&

It didn't directly help the education system but it did create a domino effect. Starting with the 10th admendment, " The power not delegated to the U.S, by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the state respectivlely, or to the people. Since the state would have power under the government states grappled independently with educational issues, leading to a surge of energy directed toward education.

The Northwest land Ordinance of 1787

Divided federally owned wilderness land into townships and required the building of schools. Allowing more children the access to a proper education.

. 18th Century Teacher

We learn a bunch about teachers from a book by Loeper, "Going To School in 1776"

Teachers plowed the firlds and did menial tasks during the summer to support themselves in the winter while teaching. Teachers struggled paying for needs from the low teachers pay.

Teachers were underapprciated, no better than the past. They were unapperciated by the students and other adults

Teachers had to take care of the schoolhouse and made little money. They were forced to live with their students. This was called "board round"

Quackers schools for females, African Americans, and Native Americans open.

Postal service established between colonies and London.
