Electricity
What is electricity?
Different materials and electric current
We can classify materials into two types, depending on how they react to an electric current.
Matter can gain an electric charge in specific circumstances. Objects can have a positive charge or a negative charge. Objects with opposite charges (positive and negative) attract each other. Objects with the same charge (negative and negative, or positive and positive) repel each other.

Conductive materials

Magnets and their uses
Electricity and magnetism are related. If we wrap a conductive wire around an iron rod and send an electric current through the wire, the rod can attract metallic objects. It becomes an electromagnet.
Magnets are useful in everyday life. There are decorative magnets for fridges, magnetic games, magnetic paperclip holders, etc. We also use magnets to store information on computers and in the magnetic strips on bank cards. The Earth is a giant magnet because of the iron in its core. The Earth‘s magnetic north pole is very close to its geographic north pole.
Magnetism
Energy sources
Humans get energy from energy sources. An energy source is anything in nature that humans use to get energy. These sources can be renewable or non-renewable.
Non-renewable energy sources
Renewable energy sources
A non-renewable energy source can run out if we use it too quickly. Nature needs time to replenish it.
Renewable energy sources do not run out. They are abundant or nature replenishes them quickly.
Do we use energy responsibly?
Problems caused by energy use
Sustainable energy use
To use energy resources sustainably, we need to:
Using energy sustainably
Sustainability means meeting our needs today without harming nature or others. It also means meeting our needs without compromising those of future generations. One of the best ways to use energy sustainably is to reduce the amount of energy you consume.
Energy and motion
Friction
Friction is the resistance of the environment (air, water, the Earth‘s surface) against the forward motion of an object. It is a force that makes vehicles lose energy and speed.
Air vehicles
Aquatic vehicles
Land vehicles
CREATING VIDEOGAMES 1
Making a video game, step by step
My video game
What do I need to do? You will expand your story about Luz and Canelo. In the story, Luz and Canelo have a conversation. Canelo asks Luz a question. Luz can give two possible answers. If Luz gives the right answer, she gets a surprise (a video game). If she gives the wrong answer, Canelo says ‘Oh no!’ and the story starts again. You are going to add more questions and more possible answers. If Luz gets the questions right, her surprise can be the video game you programmed last year (Saving animals) or two new video games. You are going to program them now.
