Passive voice awareness

To start, let's play hot potato, tell me a sentence using passive voice

Discuss these questions in pairs, you have 5 minutes for this

Let's watch then discuss about this video.

- What do you shop for the most?- What's your favorite thing to buy in stores? - What's your favorite thing to buy online? - Have you ever been to a "flea market"? - What about a "thrift shop"? - What is the difference between those two places?

Now let's take a look at this other video

What? When? How?: Use of passive voice

The passive voice is used to show interest in the person or object that experiences an action. Passive voice is mostly used in written form and it's seen as "formal" speech. It can be expressed in all tenses as we may see in the next slide

passive voice

small practice: Come to the board and follow the instruction

  1. The way we shop today has been changed by technology
  2. ____________________________________________
  3. ____________________________________________
  4. ____________________________________________

Now, think and answer.

When you go shopoing, do you take care of your money? how?

If something is expensive, do you wait for the price to drop?

From 1-10 how much do you care about the price on things?

If you want clothes for a certain season, do you wait for sales?

activity for today

Presentation:

individually:

  • Make the poster on a white sheet of paper adding what you were asked last class. Make it attractive.
  • Persuade your classmates to buy your product.
  • The product with more buyers will get a 10 as long as you include EVERYTHING that was asked to add in the poster
  • Buyers have to bargain with the sales person. Your active participation grade will be affected whether you do it or not.
  • create a new product to sell to your classmates
  • Make a handmade poster ad on your notebook as a draft
  • Add: a drawing of the product, name, slogan, prize and or any discounts as well as payment options and where to buy it

Example

Something like this is expected However, this poster is missing some information which you're meant to add. Make sure you do.
