Half-Way for Non

(Galarraga, 2022)

Paraisópolis & Morumbi

In this picture the half-way citizenship is observed as these immigrants that are essential workers in the US are fighting for having the same citizenship where they can have the same social, political, cultural, economic and civil dimensions of citizenship. ““This is more than a news story. This is a social movement,” says Christine Neumann-Ortiz, executive director of Voces de la Frontera. “This is a civil rights fight, a labor fight.”” (Quinn, 2021)

To the right it is the Penthouse of Morumbi, is one of the richest neighborhoods of the São Paulo city while at the left it is Paraisópolis, a favela. In this image the bordered citizenship is clearly exemplified since there is a visible wall that divides the society. In here, the affected society is characterized by scarcity, instability, urgency, social, economic with a clear deterioration of public services; favelas are known for high levels of violence and insecurity.

Abortion in waiting

(MacRae, 2020)

Against exclusion

Human rights are key to conceive an inclusive city and society, one of the most common dilemmas from human rights is the legalization of abortion. In some countries abortion has been legalized while in other it is still penalized; this situation can be explained as citizenship in waiting since the late legalization of abortion can be described as the absence of rights and obligations that have been obtained by others in other latitudes.

Exclusion among society is one of the most issued faced in creating inclusive cities, while discrimination is one of the biggest ingredients for exclusion. In the last years there has been several movements against discrimination and exclusion, Black Lives Matter being one of the strongest movements. In this picture there is a protest where it is being fight against discrimination for a inclusive society and city in the city of Washington DC in the US.

Undermined India

(BBC News, 2019)

Under Palestine and Israel

In this picture the undermined citizenship is appreciated in India because material and economic poverty, but characterized by scarcity, instability, urgency, social, economic, and not reaching political minimum rights while human rights are not being accomplished. It is also shown high levels of corruption and impunity of government and society and the country is known for poor quality of our education system and weak health system and deterioration of public services.

The recent conflict between Palestine and Israel shows how the past becomes a heavy burden for the society and has led to war causing high social costs, showing and under-exercised citizenship. The war in the zone has caused the violation of several human rights to the society living in the area, it has promoted exclusion and discrimination over the society and has been absolutely harmful to the community’s development causing a recoil.
