Pazhashi Colony
The Pazhashi Colony lies in the hilly envelope of Muttil in Wayanad. The colony has over 90 residents from the Paniyan tribe. Most of their colony's 45 residences are built in a single acre of land provided by the Kerala government.
The Muthanga Forest Sanctuary was established in 1973. However, in 2003, it became the location of violent clashes between Adivasis and police officials. The clash had started during the police's attempts to evict the Adivasis, who had built makeshift huts as a protest. During the clash, a policeman and an Adivasi protestor named Jogi died.
