PROBLEMATIC SITUATION:
Santander de Quilichao in the Department of Cauca has several neighborhoods (especially in the rural zone) with soil waste on the streets, roads, sidewalks, alleys, street corners, riversides, water streams, springs and other places in this municipality.All of that domestic garbage is reaching the riversides and the town' sewers. Empty containers collect rain water, and accumulated waste clog the sewers causing water stagnation and producing mosquito breeding sites.

IntRA-sectoral strategies
- Epidemiological Surveillance to target mosquito vectors.
- Educating the community on how to properly dispose the solid waste
- Creating awareness campaigns among the local population to protect the envi-ronment and not to throwing garbage on the ground
- Instructing the community on the benefits of recycling.
TRANS-sectoral strategies
- Vector Borne Disease Program officials, visit educational institutions to instruct students on Dengue risk factors and preventive measures.
- Visiting homes in the Cauca’s municipalities, instructing and presenting the wa-ter tank washing strategy.
- Fumigating municipalities at risk of Dengue outbreak, especially on the critical locations.
- Impletenting regulations that prohibit dumping garbage in unauthorized places.
- Establishing a monitoring system to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented measures.
