UN and the Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations and all its member states met in 2015 and agreed upon the adoption and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Delevopment. With 17 Sustainable Development goals at its core, the UN decided that over the next 15 years everyone will come together to work towards a better tomorrow. The ultimate vision being a world free of hunger, poverty, and disease. This has proven more difficult than expected time and time again as the world is hit with crisis after crisis. "According to the UN SDGs Report 2023: Special Edition, the number of people living in extreme poverty in 2020 rose to 724 million, and now gender equality is some 300 years away."

Intro to Clean Water and Sanitation
The point of the clean water and sanitation goal is to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene is still out of reach for billions. We want to spread the word of mouth to let everyone know.

Target
Target
Improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally.
By 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all.

Target
Target
Protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes.
Implement integrated water resources management at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation as appropriate.

Drinking Water
Why doesn't everyone have clean drinking water?
More than double the population of the United states has no access to clean drinking water. This does not include the people who have limited access to clean water. Clean water can be very difficult to get in rural areas of the world. This is because of severe poverty and lack of infrastructure. In many cases children have to walk miles just to get water full of bacteria. The main issue is that it is 100% possible for everyone on earth to have access to clean water. But this is not seen as a big enough issue.
06
Sanitation
In 2022, over 3.5 billion people lacked safely managed sanitation. An example of safely managed sanitation would be a bathroom in the U.S. with working sewer systems and sinks with soap and running water.

Dangers of Water Pollution

How does this change?
Ocean
There are many different ways to clean the ocean. Much of the pollution in the ocean is plastic and destroys sea life. A great way for the average person to do their part is to recycle. Another way is to pickup trash when you see it and make sure it is disposed properly. There's many different organizations that take donations and their soul purpose is to clean our oceans.
Fresh water
A lot of plastic can be found in freshwater but there is many other problems that occur. A big one is farm run off. Dams can also destroy water rescources and animal habitats. Recycling will also benefit fresh water sources. Other ways consist of voting on environmentally centered candidates that focus restoring freshwater sources.
Drinking water
Drinking water can be contaminated by many different chemicals that can slip through the filtering process. These can really effect someones health. This could be because of pollutants or old infrastructure. Droughts can also play a big part. Ways you can change this is to test your water regularly and during a drought consume as little water as possible.

- 6- "Working with a student team from another country fosters cultural diversity, and provides valuable global perspectives, enriching personal and professional growth". Yanis
- 11- "Guaranteeing access to water for all and ensuring sustainable resource management can only be achieved by being all involved in preserving this precious resource. Stop wasting, change our consumption habits (some activities such as textiles or livestock are very energy intensive)". Julian
- 8- "Sustainable development is important to both our countries because as residents of the same planet, we mutually pay the consequences of our actions. So it is up to us to act with respect for our environment in order to allow future generations to enjoy the same freedoms that we have". Antoine PIAU
- 4 - "Learning a new Java game development library, LibGDX, was challenging, but with teamwork and online resources, we overcame the challenge and created our game, BlueOps: Chemical Backlash". Vincent
- 1 - "Our goal was to gamify the intricate process of water treatment and sanitation, revealing the non-magical journey water takes before reaching our taps. Additionally, we aimed to showcase the impact of pollution on the rivers and groundwater sources that provide our water." Maho

JJulio- " Alone we do so little, together we can do so much. Teamwork can lead to new heights in getting the job done
Jake- "I believe sustainability is not only important for these two countries but for every country. Being unsustainable can be the downfall of a country."
Stervin- "Together we should work towards a better future through the sustainability goals."

THANKS!
Accessibility
One in three people live without sanitation. This is causing unnecessary disease and death. Although huge strides have been made with access to clean drinking water, lack of sanitation is undermining these advances.
Sad Fact
There are 2.2 billion people without safely managed services in 2022.
Goal
By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally.
Clean Water
In 2022, 6 billion people used safely managed drinking-water services – that is, they used improved water sources located on premises, available when needed, and free from contamination.
Contamination
Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio. Absent, inadequate, or inappropriately managed water and sanitation services expose individuals to preventable health risks.
