Are you looking for a new PYP classroom teacher?
Philosophy
Shaping young minds comes from the relationship you build with your students. They must be driven by their own curiosity and desire for accomplishment. My role as a teacher is to properly provoke and motivate my students to explore a topic and reach learning objectives. In order to do this, teachers must arouse their students’ interest with relevant and meaningful prompts that students can connect with. Key elements that I must bring to a lesson are passion and enthusiasm towards a subject as well as expertise so as to inspire confidence in my students. The most important component of learning is reflection. Students must be taught and encouraged to engage in self-reflection so that they could learn from their mistakes.

Reflection
Students are regularly asked to reflect on the progress they have made. This allows them to look inward and think about improvements and necessary changes that could be implemented going forward.
Portfolios allow the students to consolidate their work and view their performance and accomplishments from a macro perspective. Parents are asked to sign their child's work after each assignment to ensure that students are kept accountable.
Reading and Writing
A Multi-Structural Approach
Several strategies are employed in order to achieve a targetted level of literacy. These include teaching Phonics A-Z, the reading of CVCs through blending, consonant blends (e.g. sh), High Frequency Words, Dolch Sight words and using encoding and rimes. Unit Assigments are first drafted by employing scaffolding though shared writing and followed up by guided writing. Finally, students reflect on their mistakes and complete a final draft for homework.
